Black in Academia is connecting the Black academic community; provides important role models for young people; and makes Black-led research more accessible to the Black community around the world. We are creating a global platform to showcase Black-led scholarship.
Black in Academia was created by UK based organisation Leading Routes and launched in November 2018 as a national campaign challenging the representation of Black students and staff in universities in the UK. The campaign asked why only 1% of professors in the UK are Black, and how we can strengthen the academic pipeline to increase Black presence in academia and research. Since starting the campaign, we have connected with colleagues in US, Africa, the Caribbean, and Europe; and understand this as a global challenge which manifests in different ways around the world.
The Black in Academia X license is an opportunity for universities, research funders, and corporate organisations within the academic community, to support Black academics, students, and creators of knowledge in sharing their work with a wider audience.
Whether the research featured on our Content Library helps people to learn more about how butterflies are impacted by climate change; how we tackle racial inequalities; or how we develop habitats in space, the Black in Academia website will provide a resource to nourish, connect, and celebrate our community. We are excited about the vision for its growth and would love you to join us.
